Given the style identified by the client, my first step was to begin illustrating. I had a sense of what the client was envisioning, but bringing it to life was a highly iterative process. I don't typically aim to design a deliverable before defining a direction, but it was necessary in this instance. I knew I had to have a strong visual style that I could then use to develop systems for other pieces.
Next, I began manipulating brand assets to fit the aesthetic I had established. While it may seem counterintuitive to stylize basic assets after establishing components of a final piece, I wasn't entirely sure what my visual identity would be. My primary goal was to meet the client's vision, so establishing that for myself before presenting it to the client took precedence.
I then converged on the style I had established, honing in on a sketch-based style that fit the mood and direction I was trying to achieve.
Since I invested a considerable amount of time developing a cohesive style, actual application was the briefest part of my process. After an enthusiastic approval from the client, I was able to apply the style and assets I had built to a total of 36 deliverables, including editable social media graphics.
